Nathan Sweeney's view on: Opportunity in bonds in Investment Week
Marlborough’s Chief Investment Officer of Multi-Asset, Nathan Sweeney, has explained on Investment Week why he expects bonds to achieve positive returns as economic conditions begin to normalise.
Nathan said it was no secret that government bonds had a difficult time last year, prompting headlines questioning the future of 60:40 portfolios.
However, he said this was a consequence of a ‘dramatic change of gear’ as quantitative easing, with ultra-low interest rates, was replaced by the fastest pace of rate increases in recent history.
Nathan added that with bond yields significantly higher, investors were being paid to wait until interest rates start to come down, at which point he expects bond prices to rise.
